Leading figures from the Philippine agribusiness and biotechnology sectors came together at the American Chamber of Commerce (AmCham) Philippines to discuss biotechnology’s role in food security.

The event, entitled “From Farm to Table: A Look into Biotech Crops’ Role in Food Security”, sought to raise awareness on genetic modification, foster technological growth, and encourage science-based policy dialogue.

ISAAA Program Officer Kristine Grace N. Tome was the event’s featured speaker, and emphasized that traditional methods alone cannot ensure sustainable food production and that science and biotechnology are essential in tackling agricultural challenges.

Industry experts such as Dr. Gabriel Romero of the Philippine Seed Industry Association, Adriel Dave Alvarez from the Global Farmer Network, Dr. Lourdes Taylo of UP Los Baños’ Institute of Plant Breeding, and Holy Grace Encarnacion from the Philippine Association for Food Millers, also shared their insights.

Meanwhile, regulators, developers, and academics also addressed questions from the AmCham Agribusiness Committee.

AmCham Agribusiness Committee Chair Chris Ilagan underscored the committee’s commitment to advancing biotechnology discussions and the importance of innovation in addressing food security.
