National Biotechnology Week 2024 Highlights Biotech’s Role in Education, Innovation, and Commercialization

The Commission on Higher Education (CHED) and the University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB) officially launched National Biotechnology Week (NBW) 2024, set to run from November 25 to 29.
With the theme “#experienceBIOTECH: Expand the Future of Biotechnology through Education, Innovation, and Commercialization,” the event underscored biotechnology’s vital role in addressing global challenges such as food security, health, and sustainable development. It also highlighted the importance of collaboration between academia, government, and industry in advancing the field in the Philippines.
Representatives from key government agencies, including the Department of Health (DOH), Department of Science and Technology (DOST), Department of Education (DepEd), Department of Agriculture (DA), Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), and Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), participated in the event.
Activities centered on higher education, experiential learning, and collaborative initiatives aimed to engage stakeholders and deepen understanding of biotechnology’s potential impact.
Declared under Proclamation No. 1414, series of 2007, National Biotechnology Week highlights the Philippines’ commitment to leveraging biotechnology for sustainable national development.
