CropLife Philippines has released a new training manual on mango production to support the government’s efforts and the plant science industry in increasing the country’s mango output.

CLP Executive Director Ramon Abadilla emphasized the importance of improving both the quantity and quality of local mango production through science-based technologies as the demand for Philippine mangoes grows worldwide.

The manual’s first section covers Cultural Management Practices in Mango, providing farmers with detailed guidance on effective farm management, including planting, pruning, and harvesting. It also offers valuable information on pest control through Integrated Pest Management (IPM) and strategies to prevent pest resistance using Insecticide Resistance Management (IRM) and Pesticide Management techniques.

CropLife believes that by adopting these expert strategies, farmers can maximize the potential of their mango farmlands. Abadilla stated, “Mango production is a significant part of Philippine agriculture, and we aim to help our farmers achieve maximum production through updated information. This second revision will guide them towards sustainable and effective practices, especially in dealing with threats like insects and pests. With better production outputs, the industry can grow and access a wider international market.”

PhilFIDA is also working on multiplex LAMP assays to detect multiple viruses simultaneously. Integrating LAMP technology into comprehensive disease management programs is expected to enhance crop health and resilience, benefiting farming communities and supporting the economic stability of abaca farmers.
