OUR STORY

Bridging biotechnology stakeholders through policy advocacy, communication, and networking in support of the Philippine government’s food sufficiency and food security goals.

President Marcos believed that the global pandemic that struck in 2020 unveiled the “weaknesses” of Philippine agriculture. Hence in 2023, the President forged a partnership with the United States to advance agriculture research and capacity-building initiatives specific to the pursuit of biotechnology development in the country. Consequently, the Department of Agriculture (DA) has also set out its fund for 2024 in support of agricultural modernization.

These initiatives stem from the potential of biotechnology-based farming practices to address the country’s food security goals. Thus, support from all sectors is crucial to enable such innovations to spearhead the transformation of the Philippine economy. However, public support remains a challenge due to the lack of accurate information dissemination at the grassroots level and the absence of a comprehensive biotechnology network among stakeholders, giving avenues to the formation of Biotech For Life.

Together with the DA-Biotech Program Office (DA-BPO) and Biotech Coalition of the Philippines, we strive for actionable progress in providing a platform for biotech advocacy, information hotspot, collaborative media outreach, knowledge exchange, and networking towards the development of evidence-based policies gearing to the sustainable development of the country.
